MEET THE STAFF

Coach Isaac J. Heggins

A highly experienced basketball and football coach, known for his commitment to fundamentals and a faith-driven approach to leadership. With over 25 years in coaching, Coach Heggins has impacted countless young athletes, instilling in them the importance of strong fundamentals as the foundation for success.

As the former Head Varsity Girls Basketball Coach for Hemet and Tahquitz High Schools, Coach Heggins led his teams to three league championships and a CIF quarterfinal appearance, with multiple CIF playoff qualifications. His dedication to excellence has made him a respected figure in high school athletics.

A former standout athlete, Coach Heggins had multiple offers to Division I schools but had his football career cut short due to a severe knee injury. However, he remains deeply connected to the sport as a member of the Junior College Football Hall of Fame.

Beyond coaching, Coach Heggins serves as the President and CEO of 4 Lugo Officiating Group, a premier provider of referees for middle schools, Valley-wide recreation, and other programs throughout the community. He also holds the position of Head White Hat Official for NFL Flag Football in the Inland Empire and serves as a CIF official.

Additionally, Coach Heggins directs operations for 10U NFL tournament teams and coaches the 10U IE Sixers Black National Basketball Team, where he applies his wealth of experience to mentor and develop young talent.

A devoted husband, father, and man of faith, Coach Isaac J. Heggins is widely admired for his unwavering dedication to his players and community.

Jerry Apana

Coach Jerry is a current IUSD Adaptive Physical Education Teacher specializing in improving movement development for youngsters through quality gross motor assessment, goal setting, and program design.

Over the last 20 years, Coach Jerry has enjoyed using his credentials to coach youngsters in his community to develop and grow as athletes across the broad spectrum of sports, especially flag football. He led his 10u team in 2010 and 14u team in 2012 to win the Best of the West Tournament through the San Diego NFL Flag League.

Coach Jerry states that flag football is the future of competitive sports. The skills learned in flag football transfer directly to tackle. For many tackle football families, flag football is a great starting point for improving technique and learning the fundamentals of the game. It’s the perfect introduction to catching, throwing, formations, routes, defensive skills, and more.

Jerry’s goal is to continue to instruct athletes through the dynamics of flag football that avoids vicious and unnecessary contact while keeping the integrity of quality technique and understanding of meaningful skill sets that are truly the dominating factors in the game of football.

Coach Ka’alei Apana

A dedicated Kinesiology student and accomplished athlete with over a decade of competitive football experience. Currently a junior at Vanguard University, Ka’alei began his academic journey at Palomar College, focusing on Kinesiology Education to merge his passion for sports with a strong foundation in exercise science and athletic training.

As a collegiate football player, Coach Apana held the position of starting wide receiver and gained valuable insights and skills from training under a diverse range of highly experienced coaches. His athletic background includes a comprehensive mastery of football fundamentals, advanced techniques, weight training, and agility training, making him adept in both the physical and mental demands of competitive sports.

Beyond his athletic accomplishments, Coach Apana is recognized for his strong understanding of physical exercise, nutrition, and effective team collaboration, along with his leadership skills. Coach Apana’s commitment to sports, education, and personal growth positions him well for a future in athletic training and coaching, where he aims to improve and elevate others through his expertise.

Coach Chauncey Hart

A passionate biology major and a talented college athlete who played as a defensive back for the Ottawa University Arizona Spirit. Coach Hart combines his academic pursuits in biology with a deep commitment to athletics, bringing discipline and strategic thinking to the field.

Coach Hart has continued to build on his athletic foundation. His role as a defensive back showcases his agility, quick reflexes, and keen understanding of game dynamics, making him a valuable asset to his team.

With his background in biology, Coach Hart is preparing for a career that blends his interests in science and sports, with aspirations that extend beyond the field.
